My Grandma's Pie Safe

I remember when I was 5 or 6 years old.  We lived so near my Grandma and Grandpa that Mama would let me walk through a neighbors yard and to my grandparents' house by myself.  They lived just down the hill.  She’d call Grandma to let her know I was coming, and I’m certain she watched to make sure I’d gotten there.
I loved to go in my Grandma’s kitchen and look into her green pie safe.  The top half had glass inserts in the doors with red designs around the edges of the glass.  There were nearly always soft, chewy, sugar cookies on the bottom right shelf.  I’d stand there and look in at them until Grandma would offer me one.  I was just the right height to look directly at those cookies.  She had molasses cookies too, but I’d only take one of those if the sugar cookies were gone.
The pie safe was passed on to my Mama who painted it country blue, and now I have it.  It’s still blue, and holds games and books now, but when I see it I always remember my Grandma giving me cookies.  =)

Super Bowl 2010

Here's a picture of my sister-in-law's chili beans staying hot on the wood stove!
We all went to my father-in-law's Sunday night after church.  He had the TV set up in his building, and with heat from the wood stove, we were plenty warm.  It's just like the stove we had in our home while I was growing up.  =)
Everyone brought different things, and it was chaotic and fun.  I printed football and Colts coloring sheets for the younger kids, and football bingo for the older ones.  They marked off plays as they happened.  Bethany won!
As for what we had planned special for the SuperBowl, things did not work out the way we'd planned.  The girls and their cousin were going to make a Super Bowl cake a day or so ahead with fondant, iced yardage lines, and logos of both teams.
We got snowed in.  Well, on this hill we live on, it does not take much!
Their cousin had the cake mixes, icing tips, and the right pan they needed.  We had the stuff to make fondant.
We just couldn't get it together.

Travis drove, um, slid us down the driveway, and we barely made it back up later.
Even without the cake, there was plenty to eat.  Chili beans, tortilla chips, cheese, and sour cream... hamburgers and hot dogs w/ homemade chili... brownies, homemade strawberry cake with yummy strawberry icing...  3-cheese seasoned tortillas... and more!

Hope everyone had a great time with family and friends!  =)

"Little" Debbie?

Wow!
The other day I was eating a honey bun... my favorite Little Debbie cake.
There was a small piece of blue plastic in it!  About an inch and a half long, bendable, but plastic.
So I called to let the company know.  Of course the lady wanted the information off the box so they could find out what may have happened, and she said she'd send me a mailer to mail back the plastic and the box.  She was very nice, and we talked for a bit.
Then she asked if I had kids, and were they allergic to chocolate.  She said she'd send my family some samples.  I figured the kids and Travis would eat them, since I'm not much of a fan of the chocolate Little Debbie cakes.
Today JohnDavid and I were at the table, finishing up math.  He heard a truck outside, then Rebekah called, "Mama, someone's honking a horn outside!"  JohnDavid ran to get his shoes, but before he could get them on, a delivery man came to the door with a big box!
I saw Little Debbie on the side.  Why such a big box? I wondered.  I knew the lady said she'd send some samples.
Samples?!?
THIS is what we got!!!
Snack cakes, granola, breakfast bars, and a package of snack crackers -- altogether eleven boxes!!! And a coupon for another free box!
LOL, JohnDavid said, "Little Debbie is gonna be Big Debbie now!"

Levi

LOL, our dog Levi was looking into the sliding glass window, and barking at JohnDavid's reflection WHO WAS STANDING BEHIND THE CRAZY DOG! This dog is so hilarious! =D
We've had to let him in a few times lately because of the low temps, and ever since Sadie died, he will not go into either doghouse.  We block him in w/ chairs, and although a couple of times he has snuck through a hole left open, so far he hasn't realized all he has to do is push them to get out.
He sleeps on his back w/ all four paws in the air.  Here's a few pics.

Yes, he's very dirty w/ all the snow melting and the mud.  And I DO CLEAN and SANITIZE that floor!!!  Ugh. No, it was not my idea to bring him in.  But what are you gonna do when it's 10º outside?
