For many years, I have read a chapter in Proverbs along with my daily Bible reading. Sometimes I would read a devotional book for 2-3 months, then go back to Proverbs.
This past year I read a yearly devotional book, Treasures to Keep, by Edna Holmes. It was really good, and I love that she gave several scripture verses in each day's reading, with a couple more Bible references at the end, often including a verse or two from Proverbs.

This year I am back to reading Proverbs.
But yesterday, day 4, something happened that hadn't happened in a long time.
While I was reading, someone came to mind. Not a pleasant someone...
While I was reading, someone came to mind. Not a pleasant someone...
My mind started rehearsing old scenes from *years ago...
And then I remembered... I always had the hardest time while reading Proverbs! Every morning while reading, the devil would bring to mind all the things they had said and done... and if I wasn't careful, I'd find myself rehashing it all in my mind. Even years after the fact...
But I realized the devil does not WANT me to read Proverbs! He knows that when I really got back into Bible reading in 2012, God changed my heart by reading Proverbs, and in so doing, healed our marriage.
So this morning, I read it aloud. I still had to fight to keep my mind on what I was reading, and had to go back a verse or two sometimes, but I cannot let my mind dwell on the past, as I may never even see them again anyway.

And it may sound crazy, but I don't even think of them the rest of the day. Only while reading Proverbs.
So that tells you something right there!
I would love to read in peace, but I'll keep reading aloud and will re-read verses when my mind has wandered.
Pray for me please, as I am already tired of this, haha!
I have heard both Francie Taylor and Loretta Walker say to read a chapter a day in Proverbs for 3 months, and it will change you.
For me, I think it was about 3½. You can read that story here.
