Crown Mid-Atlantic Trio at God Bless America Crusade

You may know that my daughter Bethany was able to tour this summer in a ladies' singing group from her college. They sang in 81 services at 62 different churches this summer!
During their tour, they were able to participate in many things at the churches they were visiting.  Besides recreational activities, they helped pass out meals, went on bus visitation, cooked in a camp kitchen, and even passed out flyers for the God Bless America Crusade.

This weekend, her group had to opportunity to sing together again at that crusade!  When they were passing out flyers for the crusade back in the summer, they never realized they would be singing in it! =)

On some songs, the regular piano player as well as their chaperone sing with them, and Bethany plays the piano as she does here in the first pics.  So it's not exactly a trio on those songs, lol.  ;)

I removed the links to the videos since those links no longer work, but have left the pictures here.

These two songs have spoken to me many times in the past year.  I've posted them on my blog before, but just really wanted to share them again.

♪ ♫ To Count For Jesus

All want their lives to count for something;
To leave their mark when life is through.
But vain pursuits will count for nothing:
Time will erase what ‘ere we do.

I want my life to count for Jesus,
For earthly things will quickly fade.
No need to add to worldly riches;
I only seek eternal gain.

Inside my heart there burned a question,
What was I placed on earth here for?
It truly was to build a kingdom;
Not of my own but of the Lord’s.

I want my life to count for Jesus,
For earthly things will quickly fade.
No need to add to worldly riches;
I only seek eternal gain.

Gymnopédie No. 1

JohnDavid is learning to play this song.  =)  It is on our keyboard, and the beginning sounds like the theme from the movie Up.  He heard it and started learning to play it.  His piano teacher found out, and since we have the music book that came with our keyboard, she has assigned it to him.  He is doing a pretty awesome job!  I'll have to sneak and video him after he learns the rest of it.  =D

Happy Pi Day!

Pi day is March 14.

Would you share some Pi with me?  =)

Pi (3.14) is used to find the circumference or area of a circle.
Pie is round, like a circle, but Pi are square.  πr²
To find the area of a circle, use πr² (3.14 x radius x radius).
To find the circumference of a circle, use πd (3.14 x diameter).

The original recipe for Pi is 22/7, and no one has ever found the last digit of pi.  So it is an irrational number.
But an extremely smart person might be alleged to have discovered the last digit of Pi!  =)

Here is just a small slice of Pi.

Camp, 2010

The kids look forward to camp all year!  They're always so excited.  This camp is one that I would recommend to anybody.  They have preaching every evening; the teen camp is always held during their revival.  There are also two other services during the day.
They have a time in the afternoon to memorize scripture to earn points for their team.  This year, Rebekah said 83 verses!  Yes, she may have already known some, and I'm sure no camper ever remembers them forever, but still they are getting the Word of God.  Just like a sieve that water runs through; it is cleaner afterwards.
There are plenty of games and fun, and my kids have said they wish camp lasted 2 weeks -- come home on the weekend to rest and wash clothes, then go right back!  Rebekah says at the end of the week, she's just not quite "done."  =)
Seven campers received Christ this week!  That's seven the devil won't get!  And you never know what child may grow up to do a great work for the Lord - He values each one!  That's why I love this song so much that I videoed at the Friday night service when we went to pick up our kids.

At the end of the service, they gave out the awards, and recognized campers who got the Camper of the Day.  Bethany got it one day!  Then from those they chose a Camper of the Week, and those 2 campers received a trophy.  They choose campers who have a good attitude, show team spirit, are helpful to others, etc.
The boy and the girl who said the most verses each received a Bible.  I think the boy said 166 verses, and 2 girls tied with 155 verses each.
The theme was "I am a Christian Soldier."  The teams were Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta.  My kids were on Alpha, and they came in 4th.  I don't know what all games they played, but they play hard to win points!

They also got bonus points for memorizing The Christian Soldier's Creed, printed on the backs of their t-shirts:
I am a Christian Soldier true to the cross.
I will remain steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.
If a fellow Christian be overtaken in a fault, I will remain spiritual so I may restore him.
I will endeavor to bear the burdens of my fellow comrades.
I will fight a good fight; I will finish my course; I will keep the faith.
I am a Christian Soldier!

I'm so thankful for people who love the Lord, and are willing to have a camp like this for kids.

Singing with Kay Chandler

Last week, we went to a Ladies' meeting where Kay Chandler was speaking.  She is one of the Hutson Sisters, who are daughters of the late Preacher Curtis Hutson.
The theme of the meeting was "A Sweet Spirit."  At lunch, in the corner they had set up a Candy "Bar" where you could take a small bag and get different kinds of candies.  Mrs. Kay was in line next to my girls and began quietly singing "Sweet Jesus," and my girls joined in.  Smiling, she turned to them and said, "Y'all know that song, too?  Ok, we're singing that!  Do y'all mind if I sing lead?"
My girls were so honored that she wanted them to sing with her!
After lunch, they went back into the church and practiced it a couple of times before the second session started.  There were a couple of differences in how they were used to singing it, but it still turned out pretty good!  They sang it a second time, and it was better, but I didn't record it but once.  =\
Of course, right after the meeting was over, they had to call Abigail to let her know!  Abigail and my 2 girls sing together, and have begun to sing more often at nearby churches.  And getting to sing with Kay Chandler was the highlight of their week!  =)
