JohnDavid made Deer Stew today! =)

He made deer stew all by himself, from start to finish.  I'm proud of him!
He's done it before, but usually the girls would join in and help.  Today, he did it all on his own.
and.... he let me take his picture!!!  And post it!!!  =D

And Bethany made chocolate chip cookies.
Ahhh, the deer stew smells soooo good!

GLAD Cookies!

Haha! The girls are going to a sleepover, and Bethany made 2 kinds of cookies - chocolate chip and peanut butter cup. Grandma Shelby and Grandpa Bruce picked up the girls on the way to sing at the resthome before dropping them off at the sleepover, and unknown to them, a box of cookies fell out onto the ground;  Bruce ran over them!
These were soft-baked cookies, and if you look closely, you can see the lid imprint saying "GLAD" in the cookies! hahaha!
Here's the cookies they WERE gonna eat!
JohnDavid called it "road kill" lol!

Blackberries!!!

We have lots of blackberries along the end of our driveway!  Hope to make several desserts this year.
Travis and Bethany went down there Saturday and picked about ¾ of a gallon.

I was busy this weekend, so the blackberries are still in the refrigerator.  I hope to make something with them tomorrow.  Yummy!

Juicy Blackberry Cobbler. I made it today.  =)

Taste Bud Analysis

In a bold move yesterday, I bought Medium salsa!  No fear, I also bought a jar of Mild as backup.  =)  Well, I'm a wimp and ended up using more sour cream than shown here.  All you Hotties out there, quit laughing!
Needless to say, I'll be going back to the Mild.  I did not burn my bridges -- just a few taste buds.  lol.

Super Bowl 2010

Here's a picture of my sister-in-law's chili beans staying hot on the wood stove!
We all went to my father-in-law's Sunday night after church.  He had the TV set up in his building, and with heat from the wood stove, we were plenty warm.  It's just like the stove we had in our home while I was growing up.  =)
Everyone brought different things, and it was chaotic and fun.  I printed football and Colts coloring sheets for the younger kids, and football bingo for the older ones.  They marked off plays as they happened.  Bethany won!
As for what we had planned special for the SuperBowl, things did not work out the way we'd planned.  The girls and their cousin were going to make a Super Bowl cake a day or so ahead with fondant, iced yardage lines, and logos of both teams.
We got snowed in.  Well, on this hill we live on, it does not take much!
Their cousin had the cake mixes, icing tips, and the right pan they needed.  We had the stuff to make fondant.
We just couldn't get it together.

Travis drove, um, slid us down the driveway, and we barely made it back up later.
Even without the cake, there was plenty to eat.  Chili beans, tortilla chips, cheese, and sour cream... hamburgers and hot dogs w/ homemade chili... brownies, homemade strawberry cake with yummy strawberry icing...  3-cheese seasoned tortillas... and more!

Hope everyone had a great time with family and friends!  =)

Going out with Travis♥/Bacon & Egg Cups

Travis told me last night he was taking me out tonight and leaving the kids home!  It's nice that they're old enough for that now.  =)
So I didn't think I'd be cooking anything today that I'd be taking pics of and posting on my recipe blog, but then I decided to make Bacon & Egg Cups this morning.  Yum!
Hee hee, move the mouse back and forth over the bacon 'n eggs to "salt" them!
(I'm crazy)
ETA: The 'glitter' feature has been removed.  I'm still crazy.  =D

Easy Access Recipes

Well, I've moved my recipes to another blog.  This blog is too cluttered with too many different topics.
Sometimes I'm asked for a recipe, but I don't have it with me, or I don't really want to write it out three times!
Am I that good of a cook?  No, but this does happen occasionally.  And I just decided for my own purposes to put the recipes on one blog.

try them and you may, i say, part 2

Well, we tried them. Eggplant that is. That's Bethany on the left grilling it. Rebekah is frying squash! :o) We've never had eggplant, so I'm not even sure we cooked it the right way! I looked it up online, and will definitely look up more ways to cook it! It wasn't terrible, just not tasty. Hmmm... maybe a little terrible, lol.

We'll have to try again... Any suggestions?

try them and you may, i say

How many times have we had to make our kids eat their vegetables? What is it about vegetables that are so different than chicken or pasta? Would you believe my kids love broccoli??? But not so much canned corn. Now, corn on the cob, yeah, they love that. Peas, green beans.... somewhat. They like squash casserole. So what kid likes squash and broccoli? Mine, I guess. But you should see the tiny spoonfuls of corn or peas they dish onto their plate!
So, we as parents make sure they eat what's good for them.
Sometimes God has to do the same for us. We don't always like what is dished up for us. God may want you to do something you're not comfortable with. Life is always changing -- we can't always stay in our comfort zone. We just need to try not fighting whatever God's plan is for our life, and we will probably like it. Try it and you may, I say.
My kids didn't always like squash and broccoli.
So when we have changes in our lives, we can learn to get used to them.  God knows exactly what we need.
Paul said in Philippians 4:11 "...I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."
