After naptime, I remember lining up in the hall, with the teacher walking down the line, pausing at various smart, well-behaved children and letting them choose a sucker out of the little bunch she held in her hand.
She walked past me each time. Apparently, I was not well-behaved.
But I was never sleepy at naptime!
I finally gave up on getting a sucker....
Until one day....
Like usual, I was not sleepy, and I was bored.
So I sat up and looked around at the other kids going to sleep.
I heard the teacher coming, so I lay down with my eyes shut. I kept very still.
I heard the door open.... after a moment, I heard it close again.
I carefully peeked to make sure she was really gone and not tricking us. Sometimes she did.
I eventually got brave enough to actually lean off my cot a couple of times to see what my neighbors were doing.
They were sleeping.
sigh...
so bored.....
An hour is a loooong time for a 5-year-old to be still with ab-so-LUTE-ly nothing to do, especially when she's not sleepy!
So... I took off the blanket of the kid next to me. I don't know why. I didn't keep his blanket; I just decided to pull it off him. I think it was light blue.
The teacher checked on us several times, and each time, I just lay still.
I was very quiet, hoping to trick her....
I got the sucker!
I chose what I thought was a chocolate one. It turned out to be root beer, which I didn't like at all, haha. That's what I get for not actually behaving!
I guess my teacher thought she'd better give me one since I might not have another chance.
Apparently, she was very intuitive, because I don't remember getting any more, either. haha.
